Yes, which are actually the roads not taken? Thousands. Billions. An infinite number.
Alternate history can really make one dizzy. And just in order not to grow too confused, I have
chosen to mention only few links. This way, I hope, each one will be able to find the right
way through allohistory without embarassment. To start with amusement, I would suggest
Alternate History Travel Guides, which was conceived
as a sort of Baedeker to alternative timelines. Very interesting, and also funny. Then a blog. Why not?
Althistory has been created by Robbie Taylor, who defines himself as
a "liberal Texan", which makes him indeed an amazing guy. The blog has a nice title: Today In Alternate
History: Important Events in History That Never occurred Today. But let's go further.
Apart from Uchronia.net and Othertimelines.com ,
which I quoted in the page before and that are among the widest sites concerning
alternate history, I would point out to AlternateHistory.com with
its discussion forum and its exciting hosted sites. If this is not enough to start with,
just replace "alternate" with "counterfactual" in your search engine and find some
articles: Jay Briant's, who
writes also that "counterfactual history is a dicey proposition, to say the least". Then,
just in order to smile a bit, a Champagne alternative history:
really astounding! Moving on the serious side, an article by the Dane Michael A.Langkjær:
it is in English and the title is "Counterfactual history within the genre of creative
non-fiction - some preliminary remarks". It brings us deep in the discussion that
is going on in Scandinavia around alternate history as a topic in true history studies.
To shut this very little list, Counterfactual History site,
which is in its turn imho a good place for allohistorical newbies to start with.
